sandstone-capped ridges of Mammoth Cave National Park lies the
most extensive cave system on earth, with over 350 miles of
passageway mapped and surveyed. And yet after 4,000 years of
intermittent exploration, the full extent of this water-formed

average width of 75 feet, and an average depth of 10 feet with
holes of 30 feet. Shallows, sandbars, islands, and subsurface
springs are numerous. The rivers are suitable for all levels
of canoeists. No scouting or portages are required. |

The Green River through Mammoth Cave National Park is one of the
finest family oriented canoeing streams in the state of Kentucky.
Nature has taken its course along the Green River and has reclaimed
the environmental conditions of 200 years ago. Canoers can expect
to encounter deer, beaver, fox, bobcat, wild turkey, a large variety
of birds, and fish such as muskie, small mouth bass, and catfish.
